Change of registered address

The registered address is defined in the Societies Act as the address of the society that is kept and maintained with the Registry of Societies (ROS) as the society’s registered address.

Under the Societies Regulations, a registered society must not change its registered address without the prior permission in writing of ROS.

What you should know

The registered address may be a physical location or a virtual office. ROS will send all correspondence to the society’s registered address. Societies should ensure that any change to their registered address is updated with ROS.

Upon approval of the Change of Registered Address application, ROS will update the society’s constitution to reflect the new registered address. A separate Amendment of Rules (AOR) application is not required unless the society also intends to amend other rules in its constitution. 

The following addresses are prohibited from use as the society’s registered address:  

• HDB flat 

• PO Box   

• Undeveloped sites, e.g. Mukim Lot 8  

• Mobile premises, e.g. containers 

• Unofficial addresses, e.g. rooftops, void decks 

• Public places, e.g. hawker stalls or stores 

• Embassy or High Commission 

A letter of consent from the relevant authority is required if a community centre, government agency or statutory board, school, or hospital is used as the society’s registered address.

What information you need

Before submitting your Change of Registered Address application, please ensure that you have submitted your latest Annual Return to ROS. Your application will only be processed after the latest Annual Return has been filed. You are also encouraged to submit all outstanding Annual Returns to ensure regulatory compliance.

A Change of Registered Address application must be submitted online via ROS eServices ↗ (opens in new tab). The President and Secretary are required to verify and submit the application online. Supporting documents should be submitted in .docx or .pdf format. The file size of each attachment must not exceed 5MB. 

What to expect

A fee of $40 is payable upon submission of the application. The application fee for the change of registered address is non-refundable. 

Upon receipt of the Change of Registered Address application, the Registry of Societies will consider the application and where necessary, seek further clarification from the applicant. 

 Applicants can log in to our e-services to check on the status of their application. After the application has been processed and the notice published in the Gazette, the society will receive a system-generated email notifying it of the outcome.
